Who We Are
Flooding is becoming a growing concern in Wantage, Grove and nearby areas. In response, a local flood resilience group has been established to bring together residents, experts, councils and other stakeholders to help the community prepare for, respond to, and recover from flood events.

The group aims to bring together local residents to help improve flood awareness and resilience across the town. This is particularly important given that weather experts are generally forecasting a winter of heavier than usual rainfall due to the El Niño system currently developing in the Pacific OceanÂ
​
Originally formed by Wantage Town Council, the group has now evolved into a volunteer-led, community organisation with leadership from local residents in both Wantage and Grove. The group has been successful in obtaining funding from various sources for flood-related projects, with additional guidance and support provided by the Town and County Councils.

As a community-led organisation, the Wantage and Grove Flood Group is aiming to attract local residents to join as volunteers and ensure that they have a direct role in shaping its activities and plans.

How you can help
We are inviting residents to get involved in a variety of ways, as follows:
- Become a member of the Flood Group team for free.
- Join our mailing list for news by sending an email to info@wantageandgrovefloodgroup.co.uk
- Watch local watercourses and flag any concerns like blocked drains to help prevent overflows.
- Share your personal experiences or records of past flooding in Wantage and Grove to help us build a case for better infrastructure and future funding.
- Explore and contribute to the flood information archives hosted on this website.
- Provide hands-on assistance during active flood events in the local area.
- Participate in our open meetings to share your voice and stay informed.

Our next public meeting will be held on Tuesday 3rd November 2026, from 19.30 to 21.00 at the Hanneys Room in The Beacon, Portway, Wantage. All are welcome.Â
We urgently need a dry, secure storage unit of about 20 square metres (equivalent to a standard garage) in a non-flood-risk part of Wantage or Grove to house our prevention equipment. If you can provide or suggest a location, please email info@wantageandgrovefloodgroup.co.uk
Visit our pop-up information stand on Saturday 14th November at Victoria Cross in the centre of Wantage between 10.00 and 16.00 to chat with us about how we support our town. Watch this space for more details.
