Who We Are
Flooding is becoming a growing concern in Wantage, Grove and nearby areas. In response, a local flood resilience group has been established to bring together residents, experts, councils and other stakeholders to help the community prepare for, respond to, and recover from flood events.

The group aims to bring together local residents to help improve flood awareness and resilience across the town. This is particularly important given that weather experts are generally forecasting a winter of heavier than usual rainfall due to the El Niño system currently developing in the Pacific OceanÂ

Originally formed by Wantage Town Council, the group has now evolved into a volunteer-led, community organisation with leadership from local residents in both Wantage and Grove. The group has been successful in obtaining funding from various sources for flood-related projects, with additional guidance and support provided by the Town and County Councils.

As a community-led organisation, the Wantage and Grove Flood Group is aiming to attract local residents to join as volunteers and ensure that they have a direct role in shaping its activities and plans.

How you can help
The group is now looking for local residents to:

Join the Flood Group volunteer team. Membership is free.

Sign up to the Flood Group mailing list for regular updates by emailing at us at info@wantageandgrovefloodgroup.co.uk

Monitor existing water courses and report potential issues that may lead to flooding (e.g. blocked drain gullies etc.).

Share details of past or recent flooding in the Wantage and Grove area. Help us to build a detailed local flood history to support funding bids, planning decisions, and infrastructure improvements.

Access existing information concerning flooding through this web-site and contribute additional information.

Help prepare for and respond during flood events in the Wantage and Grove area, when they occur.

Attend regular meetings and events and have your say!

Our next meeting will be held from 19.30 to 21.00 on Tuesday 6th October in the Hanney Room in the Beacon Centre, Wantage. The meeting is open to everyone. If there are any items you wish to see included on the agenda, please e-mail these to info@wantageandgrovefloodgroup.co.uk by 1st October.

We are currently looking for secure storage space in the Wantage and Grove area to accommodate equipment that is required for flood prevention. Ideally, this would be approximately 20 square metres (the size of a large shed or a single garage) and be away from a area prone to flooding. If you know of suitable premises or are able to assist us with this, please let us know at info@wantageandgrovefloodgroup.co.uk
